The unemployment rate of people with disabilities is more than double the unemployment rate of people without. In addition, only 20% of disabled Americans are a part of the Labor Force.
In other words, 80% of people with disabilities are not employed.
In addition, the majority of people with disabilities that are employed, work in sheltered workshops making less than minimum wage. Some are making as little as 22 cents per hour. Due to the lack of employment opportunities within the community for disabled individuals: less than 5% of people with disabilities in sheltered workshops transition into jobs within the community. We hire disabled American’s at minimum wage or more.
